"A Boundary for Every Struggle"
Raja was a spirited boy with dreams as vast as the sky above his small village. He lived in a modest home with his parents, who worked tirelessly to make ends meet. His father, a laborer, spent long days in the fields, while his mother stitched clothes to add a few extra coins to their income. Despite the hardships, Raja harbored a dream that kept his spirits high—he wanted to become a great batsman and play cricket on the world stage.
Every evening, after finishing his schoolwork and helping his parents with household chores, Raja would head to the dusty, uneven field near his home. With a battered old bat that he had patched up with strips of tape and a makeshift ball made from rags, he practiced tirelessly. He imagined himself playing in front of thousands, hitting boundaries, and leading his team to victory. But there was one big challenge in his path—no one wanted to practice cricket with him.
The boys in the village came from better-off families. They had proper cricket gear, shiny bats, and leather balls. To them, Raja was just a poor boy with torn shoes and patched-up clothes. They laughed at him, mocked his dreams, and excluded him from their games. "Go home, Raja," they would sneer. "You’ll never be a real cricketer."
Raja’s heart ached, but he refused to give up. He practiced alone, perfecting his shots, working on his footwork, and strengthening his resolve. He believed that one day, his hard work would pay off.
One day, the village school announced an inter-house cricket competition. It was a much-anticipated event, and boys from all four houses were excited to compete. The winning team would go on to represent the school in a district-level tournament, and from there, they could even be scouted for state-level matches. This was a golden opportunity.
Raja was part of the Blue House, but when he showed up for the team selection, the boys groaned. They didn’t want him on their team. But as luck would have it, the Blue House was short of players, and they had no choice but to include Raja.
"He’ll be the reason we lose," one boy grumbled.
"If we lose this match, Raja will never get another chance to play," another sneered.
Raja heard their hurtful words, but he didn’t let them break his spirit. He knew this was his chance to prove himself.
In the days leading up to the match, Raja tried to practice with his team, but they ignored him. They wouldn’t pass him the ball, and they didn’t include him in their strategies. Undeterred, Raja continued to practice alone, working harder than ever. He visualized himself hitting sixes and fours, and he dreamed of leading his team to victory.
The day of the match arrived. The entire village gathered at the school’s cricket ground, buzzing with excitement. The Blue House team was up against the formidable Red House, which had some of the best players in the school. Most people didn’t give Blue House a chance, especially with Raja on the team.
The match began, and the Red House batted first. Their batsmen played aggressively, scoring runs quickly. Despite Raja’s best efforts in the field, the other players continued to ignore him. By the end of their innings, the Red House had set a daunting target.
When it was Blue House’s turn to bat, the pressure was immense. The top-order batsmen crumbled under the weight of expectations, and wickets fell rapidly. Soon, half the team was back in the pavilion, and the scoreboard looked dismal.
It was Raja’s turn to bat. As he walked to the crease, he could hear the murmurs from the crowd.
"This match is over," someone said.
"Raja won’t last two balls," another scoffed.
But Raja blocked out the negativity. He took his stance, gripped his bat tightly, and focused on the bowler. The first ball came hurtling toward him—a fast, intimidating delivery. Raja watched it carefully, timed his shot perfectly, and sent the ball racing to the boundary. Four runs!
The crowd gasped in surprise. The next ball came, and Raja hit it with equal precision. Another boundary! Slowly but surely, Raja began to turn the tide. With every shot, he gained confidence, and with every run, he silenced his doubters.
The scoreboard began to tick steadily, and the gap between the target and the runs scored narrowed. Raja’s teammates, who had once mocked him, now watched in awe. He was playing like a man possessed, hitting sixes and fours, running quick singles, and keeping the strike.
As the match entered its final over, Blue House needed 10 runs to win. The tension was palpable. The bowler ran in, delivered the ball, and Raja swung his bat with all his might. The ball soared through the air and landed beyond the boundary rope—a massive six!
Now, with just four runs needed off the last ball, Raja knew this was his moment. The bowler, visibly nervous, bowled a full-length delivery. Raja stepped forward, timed his shot perfectly, and sent the ball racing past the fielders to the boundary. Four runs! The match was won!
The crowd erupted in cheers. Raja’s teammates rushed onto the field, lifting him on their shoulders. The boy they had once dismissed as a nobody had become their hero. Tears welled up in Raja’s eyes as he soaked in the applause. He had not only won the match but also won the respect and admiration of his peers.
After the match, the school principal announced that Raja had been selected to represent the village in the district-level tournament. His joy knew no bounds. He rushed home to share the news with his parents, who hugged him tightly, their eyes filled with pride and tears of joy.
Raja’s journey didn’t stop there. In the district-level tournament, he continued to shine, leading his team to victory and earning a spot in the state-level team. His talent and determination caught the attention of selectors, and soon, Raja was playing in national tournaments.
With each match, Raja’s reputation grew. He became known for his powerful batting, his calm under pressure, and his never-give-up attitude. He fulfilled not just his own dream but also the dreams of his parents, who had always believed in him.
Years later, Raja stood on the grand stage of international cricket, holding the trophy that marked him as the best player in the world.
As he looked out at the cheering crowd, he thought of the dusty field where it had all begun, the struggles he had faced, and the journey that had brought him here. He had proved that with hard work, perseverance, and an unshakable belief in oneself, even the biggest dreams could come true.
